5W-30 carries a winter viscosity grade of five, so it stays thinner at very low temperatures than a 10W-30 and reaches every point in the engine faster on start-up.
Its hot viscosity grade is 30, meaning it is less viscous at high temperature than an oil such as 5W-50 and reduces friction losses.
